WELCOME
Welcome to our information page about Lone Goose Hunt Club. Our club property is located along the “Wild & Scenic“ Niobrara River near Valentine, NE. Our ranch borders nearly 2 miles of the Niobrara river in an area along the river valley where 6 different “Ecozones” meet, resulting in a great degree of biodiversity. We have a forty acre marsh (comprised of a large 36 acre and a smaller 4 acre marsh), this is all fed by 2,600 gpm of spring water coming directly out of the Oglala aquifer. The rest of the property is comprised of riparian habitat with mixed hardwoods, working up from the valley floor with river breaks covered with Ponderosa pine and cedar to an uplands comprised of a mix of “Sandhills Prairie” native grasses.
The club is operated by two friends, Steve Hansen and Aaron Phillip Schroeder. They have known each other for several years and and met through their mutual love and respect for the outdoors and hunting.
Steve’s background includes a career as a fisheries/wildlife biologist, including 23 years in Alaska. Aaron’s background includes many years of professional dog training of both upland and waterfowl dogs as well as outfitting. Their combined backgrounds, experience and love of the outdoors combines to provide a great experience to our select members. Our memberships are more than just about the hunt. We strive to bring our love of the entire “outdoor experience” and love of the outdoors and enjoy sharing these experiences with our members.
Steve’s love of the outdoors and knowledge of wildlife and fisheries habitat led him to a nearly 2 year search using wildlife and fisheries population index mapping, over a 5 state area, to find a retirement property with all the habitat attributes that any outdoor enthusiast could dream of having. This search led to the purchase of Schlagel Creek Ranch in 1985. It is family owned and selectively managed for wildlife, waterfowl, fisheries and limited controlled grazing. It is only recently that Steve and his family have decided to share their family ranch with a limited number of guest/members.
